Junk Food Dinner Podcast: Episode #5

Boom! It's the fifth episode of the Junk Food Dinner podcast!

In Mark's absence we welcome our good friend Jason Frisbie to the show to participate in our weekly cult film freak out.

This week we drool over a young Tawny Kitaen in the 1984 erotic, French Indiana Jones rip-off (The Perils of) Gwendoline (in the Land of the Yik-Yak). Next it's medieval motorcycle mayhem with Ed Harris in George A. Romero's Knightriders from 1981 and finally, we travel to the dystopian near-future with the director of Donnie Darko and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in Southland Tales from 2006.

Elderly Mutant Ninja Turtles

Here's a pic of one of the masks for the new live-action Ninja Turtles movie. Its pretty exciting because they apparently don't look like shiny muppets. Maybe the movie will take the turtles back to their grimy, violent comic book roots. Or maybe they'll make another dumb kids movie with really interesting-looking turtles. Either way, I hope Vanilla Ice doesn't participate in any ninja rapping.

Big Tits Zombie in 3D!

Wow, with a title like that, how can you go wrong?

Takao Nakano directs this adaptation of Rei Mikamoto's bizarre manga (isn't that an oxymoron?) Kyonyo Dragon. Here's the official press release/synopsis:

Rena Jodo (Sola Aoi) is a stripper who just got back from Mexico and she has been offered a gig at a hot spring resort. When she arrives, she finds a deserted country town. There's hardly anyone in the audience at the strip club and all the other strippers, including Ginko (Risa Kasumi), Maria (Mari Sakurai), Nene (Tamayo) and Dana (Io Aikawa) are all bored stiff. They don't know what to do with their time and they are on the verge of fighting each other.

When they decide to go down to the basement of the club to kill time, Maria finds a "Book of the Dead" near "the Well of the Spirit." But who could have imagined the horror and panic that find would bring? Maria's reading of the book out loud has somehow revived the dead and zombies start appearing all over the world attacking mankind. It's Hell in the real world!

Dana and Nene are bitten by the zombies and they turn into living dead who attack Rena and Ginko. The poor big‐bosomed babes have no choice but to fight against Maria who now rules the zombies and tries to establish a kingdom of zombies. Rena and Ginko have to challenge Maria and the hordes of zombies! And how does the Blue Demon Devil (Minoru Torihada) fit in?

WATCH THE TRAILER HERE

As a fan of crazy-as-hell Japanese movies (and there seems to be a lot of them lately), I am very curious about this one and hope we see a US DVD release of this very soon!

Spider Baby: The Musical!

Here's some footage from Spider Baby: The Musical that was produced in 2009. I don't think this will be hitting Broadway anytime soon, but interesting to see nevertheless. If you haven't done so already, check out our discussion on Spider Baby on this week's podcast.

Junk Food Dinner Podcast: Episode #4

This week we examine the work of legendary exploitation film director Jack Hill. First we take a look at his creepy and campy black & white horror flick Spider Baby from 1968. Then we get a taste of his blaxploitation days with Pam Grier kickin' ass and lookin' hot in 1973's Coffy and finally we get a heaping helping of explosive girl gang fun in his 1975 magnum opus Switchblade Sisters.

*[Due to some technical difficulties beyond our control (in other words, Skype fucking up), this episode is a little rough. Mark's audio is kinda warbly at times, especially at the beginning and there are some awkward cuts where calls got dropped, but all-in-all, it's not too bad. You'll get over it.]

Slime!

Above is the trailer for "Slime City Massacre," the long awaited sequel to Greg Lamberson's 1988 classic "Slime City." Me? I'm into it. I think.

Buffy, the Vampire Avenger

Holy Shit! Joss Wheden is (reportedly) directing "The Avengers!"

That's right. The movie featuring Iron Man, Capt. America, Thor and The Hulk (probably) will be directed by the guy who brought us Buffy, Angel and Serenity!!

I'm kind of hoping that the film involves the titular super heroes buddying up to take on Dr. Horrible.

All Hail Lady Bim.

We watched "The Apple" this week. The film involves these weird, glittery triangular stickers people have to wear on their faces (by law!) to show their appreciation of this record label/band/vaguely asexual mafia. See that dude up there? That's the sticker I'm talking about.

Well, anyway. Last week I bought the Lady Gaga CD (so what? Wanna fight about it?) and it had an advertisement inside for some Lady Gaga earphones:

"The Apple," you wrongly predicted that by 1994, band T-shirts would be extinct, but you've proven more prophetic than we could have ever imagined.

Junk Food Dinner Podcast: Episode #2

Episode numero dos of our weekly cult movie podcast, Junk Food Dinner! This week we take a look at the 1982 telekinesis-themed high school sex comedy Zapped! Then we take a bite of the so-bad-it's-good (or maybe just plain bad) disco mayhem that is 1980's The Apple. And finally we get a thirst for human blood with the 1973 arty blaxploitation vampire allegory Ganja & Hess.

Zapped! OST

This week, Parker's pick was the 80's teen sex comedy "Zapped!" starring Scott Baio and Willie Aames. We all actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit, however, the soundtrack is AWFUL. So here it is! Look for the Episode 2, up this week!

Forbidden Zone hosts Ultimate Fighting.

As mentioned in Episode #1 of the podcast, Gramps from "The Forbidden Zone" looks like Kimbo Slice.
