Hatchet 2 to be released unrated

Word on the web-a-nets is that Hatchet 2 will be released unrated. This sounds pretty cool in theory. I mean, it would sound cooler if the original Hatchet was totally awesome, but it pretty much falls into the "That was cool. I guess I might buy the DVD if I can find it in a $5 bin." And I probably only feel that favorably because Mercedes McNab from "Buffy" was in it.

Anyway, the fact that the sequel will be unrated is probably more marketing hype than anything else, because it implies it will be hugely gorey. In reality, it'll probably be more like all the unrated horror DVDs you've shelled out for that are 97 seconds longer than the theatrical release and you can't even tell what's been added until you check the "Trivia" section on IMDB.

Or perhaps director Adam Green is planning on taking the Jud Apatow unrated route and just add 45 minutes of shitty improv scenes where the characters learn things about themselves and come to terms with their feelings.

Junk Food Dinner Podcast: Episode #22

Time to get excited, weirdos. Episode #22 of Junk Food Dinner is here, and boy, is it a doozy!

This episode is dedicated to one of our all-time favorite cult films, 1993's Freaked.

We've all been big fans of this stylized, irreverent, wacky comedy for years and were very excited to sit down and discuss the finer points of the film as well as share our personal experiences with Freaked and how it warped our young minds back in the 1990's.

As if that wasn't enough, we had a chance to sit down and talk with none other than writer, director and star of Freaked, Mr. Alex Winter himself!!! We chat about his career, the making and release of Freaked and what he's been up to recently. It was a very fun interview and we're super excited to share it with you. Enjoy!

No Nerd News or DVD & Blu-Ray releases on this show, if you want that info for this week, check out the last episode #21.

We reckon this episode could help you, if you just let it into yer heart... yer heart... yer heart

Spookies Soundtrack. (Sort of.)

The good folks at Sideshow Cinema have posted an audio rip for the main theme from Parker's childhood favorite "Spookies." Not a bad little flick, that seems to keep popping up since we covered it way back in the golden days of Episode #10. Look for more exciting "Spookies" related stuff from JFD in October. It's so exciting we can't talk about it yet!

C'mon Meegan, it's spooky as hell inside.

Junk Food Dinner Podcast: Episode #21

Boom! Episode #21 of your favorite cult movie podcast, Junk Food Dinner, is all up in your interwebs.

This week in Mark's absence we welcome long-time friend Christopher Olvis to the show to rap about three nerd-tastic features.

Up first we have John Carpenter's 1988 conspiracy theory, action-packed , cult classic They Live starring Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Then we explore the visually striking MTV animated series The Maxx from 1995, based on the comic book of the same name from Image Comics.

And finally, we watch a giant rubber brain with a face terrorize a couple Canadian teens, in the cheesy horror flick The Brain from 1988.

Also, we have Nerds News, this week's DVD and Blu-Ray releases and much more!

The Walking Dead trailer

I just caught this over at Fangoria. It's the trailer for the Walking Dead (a good one, not that bootleg, blurry Comic-Con one). It looks pretty exciting, although I do think I saw a zombie or two enjoying a brisk jog, so we'll see what becomes of that nonsense.

The show also looks to debut on Halloween night, which means most most of us will be forgetting any party plans, and we'll be planted squarely on the couch for this. And the first trick or treater to knock on the door and interrupt the show will probably have to get a stern ass-kicking. Stern, but fair.

Hatchet II trailer

Sadly, this Hatchet has nothing to do with that book you had to read in 6th grade about the kid stranded in Canada. Here's the trailer for the movie, though. Ignore all that "Hatchet resurrected and changed the slasher genre" stuff and pretend it says "Hatchet was pretty okay."

Hey 80's kids

I found this fake trailer for (I assume) a fake movie. However, it's all kinds of awesome.

Wes Craven has certainly taken many souls (and dollars).

The trailer for the new Wes Craven movie "My Soul to Take" has hit the webs. My thought? Meh. I guess the film is about a guy who kills teenagers, who also may or may not be dead has possibly returned to possess one of the teens to continue his murders. So, it's basically "Nightmare on Elm Street 2."

Speaking of which, how much mileage can Wes Craven get out of the "From the creator of 'Nightmare on Elm Street'?" The guy spends all his waking moments talking shit about Freddy and the Nightmare franchise, then uses his connection to it to hype his movies that are a million fucking times shittier than the lamest Nightmare sequels! I guess "Coming soon, from the director of 'Cursed,' 'Scream 3,' and 'Shocker'" doesn't have quite the same punch.

AND!! Wes Craven is always talking shit about how lame he thinks it is that Freddy got jokey in the Nightmare sequels, yet he makes a vampire movie with goddamn Eddie Murphy in it and he put Jay and Silent fucking Bob in "Scream 3?!"

Anyway, this movie looks pretty cool. I'll probably see it.

Warren the Ape in "Bad Po Fo"

If you haven't been watching "Warren the Ape" (Monday nights on MTV) then you are a dummy. The mock-reality show follows down on his luck puppet actor Warren De Montague as he looks to make a comeback. You may remember Warren from the "Greg the Bunny" show that got canceled far too soon (like every good FOX show).

Anyway, here's the trailer from one of Warren's early movies "Bad Po Fo." Let's all cross our fingers and hope they turn this into a full-length feature.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night (of the Demons)

Here's the NSFW Night of the Demons remake trailer. I think it looks pretty good. And the cast is great. Monica Keena, Edward Furlong and Shannon Elizabeth? Heck yes.

Junk Food Dinner Podcast: Episode #20

This week, revenge is a Junk Food Dinner dish best served cold as we serve up three controversial revenge-themed films.

First, we see what happens when a timid American, played by Dustin Hoffman, is pushed over the edge by a group of British bullies in Sam Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs from 1971.

Then, we take a look at the extreme Swedish revenge flick Thriller: A Cruel Picture AKA They Call Her One Eye from 1974.

And finally we explore the infamous rape-revenge exploitation film I Spit on Your Grave AKA Day of the Woman from 1978.

In Mark’s absence, we are joined by special guest host and long time JFD announcer, Laura Skaggs.

Also, we have Nerds News, this week’s DVD and Blu-Ray releases and much more!

Junk Food Dinner Podcast: Episode #19

It's going to be alright, kids, episode #19 of everyone's favorite cult movie podcast Junk Food Dinner is finally here!

This week's episode starts off a little slow, as none of the guys did anything exciting this week. But things pick up when we see what happens when two horror icons face off in the battle of the century when we take a look at 2003's Freddy vs. Jason.

Then we speed across the country, mowing down innocent people for points along the way, in the 1975 Roger Corman produced cult classic Death Race 2000.

And finally we give each other the creeps as we examine the kid-friendly, tongue-in-cheek horror anthology The Willies from 1990, starring Sean Astin.

We also have Nerd News, this week's DVD & Blu-Ray releases and much more!

The Avengers trailer! (more or less)

From the "Why?!" dept.

Hey cats and kittens, everyone remember the Last House on the Left remake that was recently made for some reason? No? Great! Get ready for another forgettable remake of a groundbreaking genre film!

60's Batman Finally on DVD!

No, not really. While fans of the 60's ABC Batman television series wait patiently for D.C. Comics, Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox to pull their collective heads outta their asses and come to some sort of agreement on the release of the classic show on DVD, adult video production company Vivid Entertainment has swooped in to tide you over in the mean time.

Yes, that's right, Vivid, one of the top US porn companies, has made a 60's-style Batman porn parody, creatively titled Batman XXX: A Porn Parody! And unlike a lot of the porn parodies I remember from my youth, it looks like this one has made a surprisingly valiant effort to capture the costumes and scenery of the source material. In fact, I'll be honest, I'm pretty impressed.

Check out the SAFE FOR WORK (I swear) trailer:

Not bad, right? Those costumes are spot on and they even nailed the title card font and the intro animation. And did they actually get a vintage BatMobile for this thing? How are they not getting sued over this? Does the word "Parody" in the title automatically clear them of any copyright infringement?

You can check out more at Vivid's page for the film (NOT SAFE FOR WORK, obviously, dummy).

Still, it does piss me off that this thing is on DVD, Blu-Ray even probably, and the ACTUAL 60's Batman show has never been released on home video... NOT EVEN VHS!!!

Goddammit.

Hell, It's Better Than the Prequels

Now if only they could get Michael Jai White to write and direct it.

JFD Gets Birdemic-ed.

Haha, our friend Emily put together this little Photoshop job of the Junk Food Dinner gang getting attacked by the 16-bit birds from Birdemic: Shock and Terror which we reviewed on last week's show. Hilarious! If only one of us had been wearing an Eazy-E t-shirt.

Thanks, Emily. You rule!

Junk Food Dinner Podcast: Episode #18

Buy us some smokes and let's hit up the strip club because today Junk Food Dinner turns "legal" as we celebrate our 18th birthday (episode).

This week it's no stars, no budgets but big dreams as we take a look at three low-budget cheese fests.

First, we travel to the mountains and watch a group of yuppies get picked off one-by-one in the ski-themed, straight-to-video slasher film Iced from 1988.

Then it's the end of the world as we know it and we feel fine, when we watch the 1983 Italian post-apocalyptic action flick 2019: After the Fall of New York.

And finally we take a look at the so-bad-it's-good, low-budget "romantic thriller" that's sweeping the nation, 2008's Birdemic: Shock & Terror.

Also, we have Nerd News, this week's DVD releases and much more!
