JFD217: Back to the Beach, South Beach Academy, Welcome to Arrow Beach

Put on your swimsuit, grab your towel and apply some sunscreen because this week JFD is bringing you some fun in the sun with our action-packed beach theme show!

Up first, Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello have outgrown their beach party past and are living in Ohio with their punk rock son Bobby. But, on their way to Hawaii, they stop off in L.A. to visit their daughter (played by Full House's Lori Loughlin). But there's trouble in paradise as marital problems, surf punks and giant waves threaten to ruin their good time. Add cameos by Don Adams, O.J. Simpson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dick Dale, Gilligan, The Skipper and Pee-Wee fuckin' Herman and you have a recipe for fun in 1987's Back to the Beach.

Next, Corey Feldman visits his brother (Keith Coulouris) who runs a school for beach bums in Florida owned by his uncle (The Munsters' Al Lewis). But when a goofy gangster played by James Hong threatens to take away the school after a volleyball bet, it's up to the boys to assemble a volleyball team to reclaim what's theirs. Plenty of fake boobs and bad jokes abound in 1996's South Beach Academy.

Finally, Meg Foster plays a teenage hippy runaway whose travels find her on a private beach owned by Jason (Laurence Harvey) and his sister Grace (Joanna Pettet). They invite the young girl to stay with them but she soon realizes these generous property owners are more sinister than they appear. Murder and mayhem ensue in the horror thriller Welcome to Arrow Beach (AKA Tender Flesh) from 1974.

All this plus witty banter between friends, goddamn death dedications, boxers with boners, Nerd News, Blu-rays, dozens of Ohio references and so much more!

JFD216: Cards of Death, Belladonna of Sadness, Killing American Style

Things get really weird this week on Junk Food Dinner. Parker Bowman's on the road so we call in the ghostly Mark Freado, and we're also joined by special guest Zack Carlson of Bleeding Skull and Destroy All Movies for a lively chat about 35mm, misplaced irony, fat ten-year-olds and shot on video oddities!

First up, a nearly lost film is rediscovered and released on VHS in BLEEDING SKULL VIDEO's very first release, Cards of Death from 1986! Strange Nazi-themed killers, deadly tarot cards, and a surprisingly bloody sexual appetite populate the mysterious W.G. MacMillan's only directorial effort, and we have lots of things to say about it.

Next up, we freak out in Japan with Eiichi Yamamoto's psychedelic, grotesque, and beautiful Belladonna of Sadness from 1973! Incredibly inventive (and perverted) animated sequences are used to tell the story of a tortured peasant in a feudal land who is accused of witchcraft, and some really weird stuff happens. Trust us.

Finally, we tackle another almost-lost VHS gem, from low-budget Iranian-born American film guru Amir Shervan, 1990's Killing American Style! This goofy action movie with high aspirations stars Robert Z'Dar, Harold Diamond and Jim Brown, and serves as the unofficial finale to a loose trilogy including Hollywood Cop and Samurai Cop. Implausibly staged shoot-outs and generous portions of T&A populate this fun but potentially brain-dead action-fest.

All this plus witty banter between friends, not a single Yacht Party, an all-star lineup of callers, the forbidden fruit of late night television, water droplets, phantom handjobs, sick-ass gold jackets and so much more!

JFD215: Stage Fright, Summer Camp, Little Darlings (for real)

Grab your bunk buddy, cuz we're going to the woods for our annual summer camp theme show!

First, campers at drama club are being stalked by a murderous phantom in 2014's "Stage Fright." The film is half musical, half slasher and stars Meat Loaf and Minnie Driver.

Next, sexy disco hijinx ensue in Chuck Russell's 1979 flick "Summer Camp" starring Linnea Quigley. Porn director Chuck Russell brings us a tale of summer camp hijinx that predates "Meatballs" and totally didn't rip it off.

Finally, a tough girl and a rich girl make a bet to lose their virginities in 1980's "Little Darlings." This flick takes the normal summer camp hijinx and flips the genders to tell it through the prism of female campers. Also, kids smoke and drink in it!

All this plus witty banter between friends, more requests to keep up the good work, the Holy Grail of JFD soundtracks, Nerd News, Blu-rays, VHS conventions and so much more!
