JFD282: Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood
Break out the pumpkin spice, candy corn, and horror movies taped off television - it's finally Schlocktober! In our first week in this month-long tribute to horror movies, we take a rain-soaked trip to Crystal Lake, "Forest Green", and some random halfway house for some reason. It's Friday the 13th week!
First up! Picking up the story of Tommy Jarvis a decade later (but somehow in the same time period as well), Friday the 13th: A New Beginning is best remembered as being most divergent from the series. Rather than take place at Crystal Lake, it takes place at a rural halfway house. And instead of Jason Voorhees being responsible for the killing, we have a new mystery man behind the mask. Do these changes breathe new life into the series, or is this a totally bogus entry into the series? You'll know soon.
Up next! Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is generally credited with introducing the supernatural element to Jason's aura, and brings him back to the Crystal Lake setting. It's also got a paintball match in it, which makes this a favorite among residents of Arizona.
Finally! Telekinetic Lar Park "Superstar" Lincoln does battle with Kane Hodder's first rendition of Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. Originally planned as a Freddy Krueger cross-over, this sequel from director John Carl Buechler was heavily cut by the MPAA to prevent an X rating.
All this plus witty banter between friends, Nerd News, DVDs, Strong Politics, Freddy Krueger chats, Green Inferno chats, Parker's well-reasoned defense of the Paranormal Activity movies, Intoxicated listener voicemails, Quentin Tarantino's Digital Outrage, AGFA Getting into Something Weird, Nerd News & This Week's Home Video Picks, minimal skype noise(!), cats in the closet, absolute confidentiality, continued lack of overt police involvement, sneezes, belches, gleeks and a whole lot more!
