Trailer Trash: All "Girls" Edition

Once again, it's time for more various oddball trailers from the far reaches of cinema obscurity. So, without any further ado, let's check out some "coming attractions"! This week with an all "Girls" theme!

Gas Pump Girls (1979)

The late 70's was the last great hoo-rah for sleazy sexploitation films made specifically for the drive-in theater before cable TV and home video took over as the preferred (and more convenient) method for those looking for mindless T&A to take in a flick.

One such late 70's drive-in sex comedy was Gas Pump Girls directed by Joel Bender.

The film centers around June (Kristen Baker from Friday the 13th Part 2 and Midnight Madness), a ridiculously sexy young girl who takes over a gas station formerly run by her uncle. As you'd expect, business isn't exactly booming, but when June and her equally sexy friends (notably Sandy Johnson from Halloween and H.O.T.S and Rikki Marin from numerous Cheech & Chong movies) start using their sex appeal to drum up business, plenty of hijinx (and nudity) ensue.

Gas Pump Girls had VHS and laserdisc releases from Vestron Video in the early 80's. In 2008, budget DVD company Jef Films released a poorly transferred DVD version of the film. Fortunately, a nice, clean, restored widescreen transfer has been seen on cable and on Amazon's instant video market recently.

This fan-made trailer doesn't really represent the movie very well, but it was the only clip available on YouTube:

I suggest checking out the original trailer on Amazon instead.

Slamm
er Girls (1987)

While many "women in prison" film enthusiasts prefer the gritty 70's grindhouse WIP flicks, there's something about the 80's home video babes behind bars films that always gets me. Movies like Chained Heat and Reform School Girls rank among my favorite mindless sleaze viewing.

Along the same lines (but not nearly as good), Slammer Girls appeared on the video and cable scene in the late 80's, promising plenty of silly send-ups of classic women in prison clichés, and of course, plenty of naked inmates.

Directed by former (surprise!) porno director Chuck Vincent, responsible for such other goofy sex comedies as Preppies and Young Nurses in Love and starring Devon Jenkins of Slumber Party Massacre III, Slammer Girls is a bit too hokey, annoying and worst of all, boring at times, to be considered an outright WIP classic, but nevertheless, fans of the genre, especially ones who can handle over-the-top parodies and wacky sight gags, should check out this often forgotten sex-comedy misfire.

Once again, Vestron Video can be blamed for releasing this on VHS and laserdisc in the late 80's and a low-rent DVD edition was released in 2009.

A proper trailer was not available, so instead, here's 13 minutes of some of the best/worst parts of the film:

Bad Girls from Mars (1991)

Despite its title, Bad Girls from Mars is not a low budget, sex-fueled sci-fi flick... it IS however, a low-budget, sex-fueled who-done-it murder mystery that takes place on a the set of a movie called Bad Girls from Mars. Clever, huh?

Yes, you'd expect that kind of cleverness from straight-to-video sleazemiester Fred Olen Ray, the man behind such late night cable classics as Evil Toons and Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers.

Old-timey sex bomb Edy Williams (who was rapidly approaching 50 when this movie was shot) plays erotic European film star Emmanuelle (hmm... where'd they get that name from?) who accepts the lead in a sci-fi sex flick that has been cursed with several on-set murders. Luckily for us, the cast is rounded out by some less menopausal (but no less plastic) T&A stars like Brinke Stevens and Dana Bentley.

I'll be honest, this movie is pretty terrible, but if you're like me and are inexplicably drawn to the slimy dreck that Ray and his ilk put out in the 80's and 90's, this one is pretty much par for the course.

Vidmark / Trimark Home Video released this nonsense originally on VHS in 1991 and Lion's Gate had the honor of putting it out on DVD in 2005. It is also available on Netflix Instant Watch if you're ever looking for something to watch at 3:00 AM on a Tuesday.

Alright, that's all for now. Look for future installments of Trailer Trash in the upcoming weeks.

If you have any suggestions for a ridiculous, cool, absurd, perplexing or just generally Junk Food-y trailers, send 'em my way.
