JFD305: Slacker, Dazed & Confused, Before Sunrise

Hey, junkies. We're kicking off the first part of a series where each one of your hosts gets his own show to talk up his favorite director. This week is Parker's favorite director: Richard Linklater.
We're going chronologically and first up is his first movie: "Slacker" from 1991. The experimental film follows bohemian eccentric Austin, Texas natives as they walk. And talk. And ... that's about it.
Next, is "Dazed and Confused," probably Linklater's most well-known film. The movie's got an all-star cast (Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Milla Jovovich, Parker Posey, etc.) who play teens who walk. And talk. And get very very high.
Finally, Ethan Hawke is an American on vacation who meets Julie Delpy, a French lady, and they spend a night together in Vienna in "Before Sunrise."
All this, plus Nerd News, DVDs, Dorm Chat, Poster Chat, Cool Guy News, Face to Face Chat, and tons of super more stuff.

  1. I can't believe that Shawn Byron missed the deeper point of Dazed and Confused: Mitch, Floyd and Wooderson are sort of three stages of the same character and their trajectory from innocent child to jaded adult. The series of systems and rituals of humiliation and oppression that is known as high school turn them from teens with bright futures into dropouts who -- last shot -- don't know and don't care what lies just over the horizon in the future.
